The Long Marine Laboratory, a major marine
research institution on the central coast, has recently
been expanded with the completion of the Seymour Marine
Discovery Center (aquarium and teaching lab) and the
Center for Ocean Health (research laboratories and
offices).
Seymour Marine Discovery Center
This facility houses an exhibit space with aquarium
exhibits, teaching laboratories and office space
for marine researchers. Axiom Engineers’
(sm)design services included HVAC, plumbing, fire
protection, seawater filtration, and storage and
supply systems.
Center for Ocean Health
After the successful completion of the Seymour
Center, the University retained the same design
consultant team for the adjacent Center for Ocean
Health. This state-of-the-art lab facility houses
marine researchers for UCSC and was completed
in 2001. The facility consists of wet laboratories
with fume hoods, meeting space, and offices. Axiom
Engineers’ (sm) design services for this
project included HVAC, plumbing (including lab
utilities), and fire protection.
