Seven buildings were converted from a
portion of the abandoned, former Fort Ord U.S. Army
buildings to new, three-story, 30,000 square foot college
freshmen dormitories.
Axiom Engineers(sm) designed a complete
hydronic hot water baseboard heating system, corridor
ventilation systems, a full fire sprinkler system
from existing site water service, and dormitory
plumbing systems.
Although the student services building
was redesigned with a full hot water hydronic baseboard
heating system, extensive computer modeling of the
building energy conditions was performed. Operable
windows, exterior shaping, and limited mechanical
ventilation without mechanical cooling were provided
for this project. Full plumbing design for toilet
cores and local break room was also provided. Fire
protection from site fire service, including sprinkler
design, to multiple stair tower wet standpipe design
was also a big part of the design on this project.
