Bayer Corporation
Expand Steam Plant, New Central Chilled Water Plant

Notable Engineering Features:

  • Concept design for 6,000-ton central chilled water plant
  • Detail design & construction administration
  • Hydraulic & compressible flow models
  • Life cycle costing

Axiom Engineers(sm) determined the steam and chilled water demands for a 20-year master plan and incremental requirements, designed the concept site-wide distribution system, prepared flow modeling, selected materials, and developed life cycle costs and installation budgets. Axiom Engineers(sm) installed boiler stack economizers and the first section of new underground mains.

Our initial concept design of the new 6,000-ton central chilled water plant with a distribution system for the proposed facility 20-year master plan was just a part of this huge project. Our services included engineering, layout of a distribution piping system, defining building interfaces and pumping schemes, materials and methods selection, budget cost estimating life cycle costing, and preparing reports and drawings. Axiom Engineers(sm) was in charge of the detail design and construction management of the Phase I installation.

Hydraulic and compressible flow models were used to develop operating cost data for life cycle analysis. Bayer uses a fifty-year time-horizon for life cycle costs. With this long time-horizon, operational costs far exceed first costs.
