Our Approach

Axiom Engineers℠ approaches design team organization on a per project basis. Project team members are assigned to match the demands of the project with their technical abilities. Each project is assigned to an Engineering Manager who reports to the Managing Principal. A Project Engineer is in direct charge of the project throughout the life of the project.

We continually update our engineering and production methodologies to meet or exceed industry standards. The entire staff, including branch offices, operates on the company network with the most current software. Our designers have mastered the most advanced CAD and Revit / BIM features. We also have standardized our office practices and procedures, from system sizing to specifications to production, thus assuring a higher degree of quality assurance and consistency.

Our History

Axiom Engineers℠ was founded by Richard G. Lee in 1970 with the philosophy that sometimes the best solution comes from the most fundamental principle. Raymond Cole, who had been working with the company since 1981, took over the leadership position of CEO and President upon the retirement of Richard Lee. Mr. Cole has been the company’s CEO and President since 1994.

The company has grown and expanded its services as well as its offices with locations on the Central Coast and in Northern California. Our experience in working with both public and private clients, multiple methods of project delivery, and our detail-oriented design and project management process, combined with a deep knowledge of the fundamentals provide an unmatched mix of practical high-end engineering. Critical to achieving our mission is cost-effective and timely delivery of high-quality design and engineering services. We achieve this through integration and transfer of the latest knowledge and by leveraging our unique intellectual capital for our client’s benefit.

Raymond D. Cole, P.E

Mr. Cole has been the President and CEO since 1991. Highly experienced in all aspects of mechanical engineering: HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, power generation and cogeneration, controls, process piping, and refrigeration.
Industries served include hospitality, wineries, health care, agricultural, military, institutional, commercial, educational, and other industrial sectors. Mr. Cole is a Licensed Engineer in the States of California, Georgia, and Arizona and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

William M. Estes, P.E.

Mr. Estes, Licensed Engineer in the States of CA and CO, has extensive hands-on project involvement and experience in high-performance buildings, HVAC design, energy computer simulations and analysis, plumbing, process piping, process systems, fire protection, refrigeration, water conservation, mechanical systems design, engineering economics, and project management in commercial, institutional, residential, and industrial facilities. Mr. Estes joined Axiom Engineers℠ in 1985 and was promoted to Principal in 2000.

Jay Kohler, P.E.

Mr. Kohler joined Axiom Engineers ℠ in 2015 and brings a broad range of experience in consulting mechanical engineering including high performance sustainable design for commercial, educational, museums, theaters, and cultural centers. Mr. Kohler was a founding and managing partner of a 60-person consulting mechanical engineering firm located in New York and Connecticut. Mr. Kohler is a Licensed Engineer in a multitude of states including California.

Sheila Tansill, CPA

Sheila Tansill, CPA

Ms. Tansill joined Axiom in 2001 and manages the company’s day-to-day financial operations and Human Resources.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration - Accounting from San Diego State University, Ms. Tansill gained public accounting experience with Price Waterhouse’s audit department (1983-1990) and industry experience as Controller of a mid-sized consumer electronics retailer in San Diego. Ms. Tansill is a Certified Public Accountant and has over 30 years’ experience in accounting management and financial reporting.

We cut to the heart of the matter and get inside our projects. We understand how the equipment we select really works. We are not “catalog” engineers specifying “black boxes”. We have designed complex, one-of-a-kind systems, processes, and machines successfully for over 45 years. We provide real, not “paper” experience. Because our employees have many years’ experience with us, each listed reference project is what we call “real company” experience. The people who did a project 10 years ago are likely available today for your current project.

From industry standard tools... to advanced engineering techniques...

Our CAD capabilities include AutoDesk’s AutoCAD, REVIT, and Architectural Desktop, as well as Bentley’s Microstation SE. Our design and engineering teams are fully trained and comfortable with all of the challenging aspects of CADD-based document production and can support custom-developed solutions and requirements for our clients’ exclusive needs.

– from system sizing to specification to drawing production – that provide a high degree of quality, consistency, and efficiency.

    In 1999 the company changed its name to Axiom Engineers℠ is a Service Mark of Axiom Engineers, Inc., a California corporation also doing business as Lee & Associates.

    Axiom establishes a presence in San Jose by acquiring a local mechanical engineering firm.
